Dreamliner Experience with British Airways

This year 2016 has proven to be my luckiest year yet as I get to experience new airlines again. During a short business trip to Rome, I was booked on the British Airways from Kuala Lumpur to London to Rome and then from London to Singapore. British Airways, which is a four star airlines is the main flagship carrier of the United Kingdom was established in the year 1972. With its current services, long haul flight by British Airways is currently promoted as World Traveller while short haul inter Euro flight is promoted as Euro traveller. Sounds cool right? Let’s move on to the review and my flight experience.

Kuala Lumpur to London Flight Route

This route is served by the Boeing 787-9 series Dreamliner and actually that’s also my dream come true to experience this much hype new aircraft after the Airbus A380. To start with, the Boeing 787 is the first major commercial airplane built using the mostly composite materials which include composite fuselage and composite wings (Carbon fibre re-inforced polymer).

The Dreamliner’s fuselage is segregated into 4 classes/Segments, the First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy Class and Economy Class. The seating configuration of economy class itself is a 3-3-3 arrangement.

The in-flight entertainment system of British Airways economy class is jointly developed by Panasonic eX3, Thales i5000 and Rockwell Colins TES with its 8.9 inches personal touch screen, with its noise cancelling surround sound system, usb for charging electronic devices as well as futuristic look joystick and keyboard system. There’s also a electrical socket in each seat for charging laptops or any other electronic devices.

Amenities for long haul flights include the toothbrush and tooth paste as well and an earphone set. An envelope for fundraising campaign for the less fortunate group of people was also enclosed.

In-flight Meal

As usual for any long haul flights, delectables aka snacks were served at the galley/kitchen. The British Airways introduced the ‘tuckbox’ that consists of cookies, chips, peanuts etc all for your taking.

British Airways, Flight Review, Economy Class, Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner, Kuala Lumpur to London, Seat Configuration, 3-3-3

The Dreamliner’s distinguishing features include mostly electrical flight systems as well as touch sensitive and automatic LED lighting systems minus the in-flight entertainment system. Personally I love the lighting ambience of this aircraft as well as the extra large window.

The the window lid is controlled via touch sensitive button at the bottom of each window. Even the toilet flush and the ‘faucet’ are touch sensitive.

London to Singapore Flight Route

Basically the flight to Singapore from London was served by the Boeing 777 with it 3-3-3 economy class seating configuration. The entertainment system is the same as the dreamliner system.

In-flight Meal

British Airways, Flight Review, Economy Class, Boeing 777, London to Singapore, in-flight food, dinner, strozzapreto pasta with peanut sauce, with salted chocolate caramel

The dinner for this flight was Strozzapreti Pasta with spinach sauce, and delicious caramel chocolate and salad.

The breakfast was served with western style omelette with mushroom and chicken sausage with cinnamon bread and yogurt.

British Airways, Flight Review, Economy Class, Boeing 777, London to Singapore, in-flight food, dinner, watching Manchester United vs. Arsenal, Marcus Rashford scores

One of the best parts about this journey on British Airways were the highlights of Manchester United vs Arsenal which was shown on their in-flight entertainment system.

London-Rome (Return Flight)

British Airways, Flight Review, Economy Class, Airbus A320, 3-3 Seat Configuration

This short haul Euro Traveller flight was served by the Airbus A320 with 3-3 seat configuration. As this is a short haul flight, there wasn’t any personal entertainment system.

British Airways, Flight Review, Economy Class, Airbus A320, 3-3 Seat Configuration, in-flight snacks, turkey, smoked ham and chutney roll and cinnamon ice bun

Snacks provided by the ‘Peak Bakery’ consist of Turkey, Smoked Ham and Chutney Roll with Cinnamon Iced Bun. The meal was filling especially for a short haul flight.

Well that’s all I could show about my experience flying on British Airways. The long haul flight on the both the Boeing 787 and the 777 were definitely pleasant. After all the hypes and issues about the 787 battery problem on the ANA, Boeing is definitely back with this improved 787-9 series served by the British Airways. The head read was exceptionally ergonomic which provided good rest for me. The entertainment system though futuristic, was insufficient of latest movies and games. The in-flight meal were tasty and delicious especially the caramel. The crew was kind and awesome which completed the journey. Definitely in the near future, I would like to experience flying further with British Airways. Apart from you that, you can enrol into ‘Executive Club’ which is the frequent flyer programme of British Airways to accumulate mileage points. British Airways is also a member of the One World Alliance which is also voted as the best airlines alliance of the year 2015.

hahaha..glad to have this life at the moment..the dreamliner however was just ‘so-so’ but the service was great. Still prefer A380 though.
